Wisdom of Jesus son of Sirach 36

(ⲁ︦) ⲙⲛ̅ ⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲁ ⲧⲱⲙⲛ̅ⲧ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲣ̅ϩⲟⲧⲉ ϩⲏⲧϥ̅ ⲙ̅ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϥⲛⲁⲣ̅ ⲡⲕⲉⲧⲟⲩϫⲟϥ ϩⲛ̅ ⲡⲉϥⲡⲓⲣⲁⲥⲙⲟⲥ. (1) There shall no evil happen unto him that feareth the Lord; but in temptation even again he will deliver him.
(ⲃ︦) ⲛ̅ⲛⲉ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛ̅ⲥⲟⲫⲟⲥ ⲙⲉⲥⲧⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲡⲉⲧϩⲩⲡⲟⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧϥ̅ ⲉϥⲟ ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩϫⲟⲓ̈ ϩⲛ̅ ⲟⲩϩⲁⲧⲏⲩ. (2) A wise man hateth not the law; but he that is an hypocrite therein is as a ship in a storm.
(ⲅ︦) ϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛ̅ⲥⲁⲃⲉ ⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛ̅ϩⲟⲧ ⲛⲁϥ: ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙ̅ⲙⲟϥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙ̅ⲙⲟϥ. (3) A man of understanding trusteth in the law; and the law is faithful unto him, as an oracle.
(ⲇ︦) ⲥⲃ̅ⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲕϣⲁϫⲉ ⲧⲁⲣⲟⲩⲥⲟⲧⲙⲉϥ: ⲙⲣ̅ ⲧⲉⲕⲥⲃⲱ ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲅ̅ϣⲁϫⲉ. (4) Prepare what to say, and so thou shalt be heard: and bind up instruction, and then make answer.
(ⲉ︦) ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲕⲟⲧ ⲛⲁϭⲟⲗⲧⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲥⲁⲛ̅ϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲥⲟϭ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲣⲉ ⲡⲉϥⲙⲉⲉⲩⲉ ⲟ ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲁⲝⲱⲛ ⲉϥⲕⲱⲧⲉ. (5) The heart of the foolish is like a cartwheel; and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.
(ⲋ︦) ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩϩⲧⲟ ⲉϥϩⲁ ⲟⲩⲕⲁⲣⲟⲩⲭⲓⲟⲛ ⲉϣⲁϥϩⲙ̅ϩⲙ̅ ϩⲁ ⲡⲉⲧϩⲙⲟⲟⲥ ϩⲓϫⲱϥ ⲧⲏⲣϥ̅ ⲧⲁⲓ̈ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩϣⲃⲏⲣ ⲣ̅ⲣⲉϥⲥⲱⲃⲉ. (6) A stallion horse is as a mocking friend, he neigheth under every one that sitteth upon him.
(ⲍ︦) ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲛ̅ ϩⲟⲟⲩ ϫⲟⲥⲉ ⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲓⲣⲏ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲧⲣ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲛ̅ⲧⲉⲣⲟⲙⲡⲉ; (7) Why doth one day excel another, when as all the light of every day in the year is of the sun?
(ⲏ︦) ⲁⲩⲡⲟⲣϫⲟⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ̅ ⲡⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙ̅ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁϥϣⲓⲃⲉ ⲛ̅ⲛⲉⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲙⲛ̅ ⲛ̅ϣⲁ. (8) By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished: and he altered seasons and feasts.
(ⲑ︦) ⲁϥϫⲓⲥⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲧⲃ̅ⲃⲟⲟⲩ: ⲁϥⲕⲱ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⲉϩⲛ̅ⲏⲡⲉ ⲛ̅ϩⲟⲟⲩ. (9) Some of them hath he made high days, and hallowed them, and some of them hath he made ordinary days.
(ⲓ︦) ⲛ̅ⲣⲱⲙⲉ ϩⲱⲟⲩ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ϩⲛ̅ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ̅ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ⲛⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛ̅ⲧⲁⲩⲥⲛ̅ⲧ ⲁⲇⲁⲙ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ̅ ⲡⲕⲁϩ. (10) And all men are from the ground, and Adam was created of earth:
(ⲓ︦ⲁ︦) ⲁ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲟⲣϫⲟⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ̅ ⲡⲁϣⲁⲓ̈ ⲛ̅ⲧⲉϥⲥⲃⲱ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥϣⲓⲃⲉ ⲛ̅ⲛⲉⲩϩⲓⲟⲟⲩⲉ. (11) In much knowledge the Lord hath divided them, and made their ways diverse.
(ⲓ︦ⲃ︦) ⲁϥⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉϩⲟⲓ̈ⲛⲉ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥϫⲁⲥⲧⲟⲩ ⲁϥⲧⲃ̅ⲃⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⲁϥϩⲟⲛⲟⲩ ⲉⲣⲟϥ. (12) Some of them hath he blessed and exalted and some of them he sanctified, and set near himself:
(ⲓ︦ⲅ︦) ⲁϥⲥϩⲟⲩⲣ ϩⲟⲓ̈ⲛⲉ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲑⲃ̅ⲃⲓⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ̈ ϩⲓ ⲛⲉⲩⲙⲁ ⲛⲁϩⲉⲣⲁⲧⲟⲩ. but some of them hath he cursed and brought low, and turned out of their places.
(ⲓ︦ⲇ︦) ⲉⲩⲟ ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲙⲉ ⲛ̅ⲕⲉⲣⲁⲙⲉⲩⲥ ϩⲛ̅ ⲧⲉϥϭⲓϫ ⲉⲣⲉ ⲛⲉϥϩⲓⲟⲟⲩⲉ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉϥⲟⲩⲱϣ. (13) As the clay is in the potter’s hand, to fashion it at his pleasure:
(ⲓ︦ⲉ︦) ⲧⲁⲓ̈ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉ ⲛ̅ⲣⲱⲙⲉ ϩⲛ̅ ⲧϭⲓϫ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁⲙⲓⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲱⲱⲃⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉϥⲟⲩⲱϣ. so man is in the hand of him that made him, to render to them as liketh him best.
(ⲓ︦ⲋ︦) ⲡⲁⲅⲁⲑⲟⲛ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲙ̅ⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙ̅ⲡⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲱⲛϩ̅ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲙ̅ⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙ̅ⲡⲙⲟⲩ: ⲧⲁⲓ̈ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲙ̅ⲡⲣ̅ⲉϥⲣ̅ⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲙ̅ⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙ̅ⲡⲣⲙ̅ⲛ̅ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ. (14) Good is set against evil, and life against death: so is the godly against the sinner, and the sinner against the godly.
(ⲓ︦ⲍ︦) ⲁⲩⲱ ϥϭⲱϣⲧ̅ ⲛ̅ⲧⲉⲓ̈ϩⲉ ⲉⲛⲉϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲧϫⲟⲥⲉ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲙ̅ⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲁ. (15) So look upon all the works of the most High; and there are two and two, one against another.
(ⲓ︦ⲏ︦) ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ϩⲱ ⲁⲓ̈ⲣ̅ ⲟⲩϣⲏ ⲛ̅ⲣⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲉⲡϩⲁⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲓ̈ⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲓ ⲙ̅ⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲛ̅ⲑⲉ ⲛ̅ϣⲟⲣⲡ̅. (11) Though I was the last to wake up, yet I received their inheritance as from the beginning.
(ⲓ︦ⲑ︦) ⲛⲁ ⲙ̅ⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲛ̅ⲧⲁⲩⲧⲁϩⲙⲉϥ ϩⲙ̅ ⲡⲉⲕⲣⲁⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲓⲥⲣⲁⲏⲗ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲕⲧⲛ̅ⲧⲱⲛϥ̅ ⲉⲡⲉⲕϣⲣ̅ⲡ ⲙ̅ⲙⲓⲥⲉ. (12) O Lord, have mercy upon the people that is called by thy name, and upon Israel, whom thou hast named thy firstborn.
(ⲕ︦) ϣⲛ̅ ϩⲧⲏⲕ ϩⲁ ⲧⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⲙⲛ̅ ⲡⲉⲕⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲩⲥⲁⲗⲏⲙ ⲡⲉⲕⲙⲁ ⲛ̅ϣⲱⲡⲉ. (13) O be merciful unto Jerusalem, thy holy city, the place of thy rest.
(ⲕ︦ⲁ︦) ⲙⲟⲩϩ ⲛ̅ⲥⲓⲱⲛ ⲛ̅ⲁⲣⲉⲧⲏ ⲛ̅ⲛⲉⲕϣⲡⲏⲣⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉⲕⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲛ̅ⲡⲉⲕⲉⲟⲟⲩ. (14) Fill Sion with thine unspeakable oracles, and thy people with thy glory:
(ⲕ︦ⲃ︦) ϯ ⲟⲩⲙⲛ̅ⲧⲣⲉ ⲛ̅ⲛⲉⲕⲥⲱⲛⲧ̅ ⲛ̅ϣⲟⲣⲡ̅ ⲛⲅ̅ⲧⲟⲩⲛⲉⲥ ⲛⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲓⲁ ⲛⲁⲓ̈ ⲉⲧϩⲓ ⲡⲉⲕⲣⲁⲛ. (15) Give testimony unto those that thou hast possessed from the beginning, and raise up prophets that have been in thy name.
(ⲕ︦ⲅ︦) ϯ ⲟⲩⲃⲉⲕⲉ ⲛ̅ⲛⲉⲧϩⲩⲡⲟⲙⲓⲛⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ⲡϫⲟⲓ̈ⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲁⲣⲟⲩⲧⲁⲛϩⲉⲧ ⲛⲉⲕⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ. (16) Reward them that wait for thee, and let thy prophets be found faithful.
(ⲕ︦ⲇ︦) ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲥⲱⲧⲙ̅ ⲉⲡⲥⲟⲡⲥ̅ ⲛ̅ⲛⲉⲕϩⲙ̅ϩⲁⲗ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲛ̅ⲁⲁⲣⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲉⲕⲗⲁⲟⲥ. (17) O Lord, hear the prayer of thy servants, according to the blessing of Aaron over thy people,
(ⲕ︦ⲉ︦) ⲁⲩⲱ .... ⲛ̅ϭⲓ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧϩⲓϫⲛ̅ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ϫⲉ ⲛ̅ⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛ̅ϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ. that all they which dwell upon the earth may know that thou art the Lord, the eternal God.
(ⲕ︦ⲋ︦) ... ⲉⲥⲟⲩⲉⲙ ϭⲓⲛⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲛⲓⲙ: .... ⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲇⲉ ⲉϥⲥⲟⲧⲡ̅ ⲉϭⲓⲛⲟⲩⲱⲙ. (18) The belly devoureth all meats, yet is one meat better than another.
(ⲕ︦ⲍ︦) ⲧⲉϣⲟⲩⲱⲃⲉ ⲧⲉ ϣⲁⲥⲧⲱⲡⲉ ⲛ̅ϩⲛⲁϥ: ⲧⲁⲓ̈ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲉϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲫⲏⲧ ⲛ̅ⲛ̅ⲥⲁⲃⲉ ⲧⲉⲡ ϩⲛ̅ϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛ̅ϭⲟⲗ. (19) As the palate tasteth divers kinds of venison: so doth an heart of understanding false speeches.
(ⲕ︦ⲏ︦) ϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲟⲩϩⲏⲧ ⲉϥϭⲟⲟⲙⲉ ϯ ⲟⲩⲗⲩⲡⲏ ⲁⲩⲱ ϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛ̅ⲥⲁⲃⲉ ⲧⲟⲟⲃⲉⲥ ⲛⲁϥ. (20) A froward heart causeth heaviness: but a man of experience will recompense him.
(ⲕ︦ⲑ︦) ϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲧⲉⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲓ ϩⲟⲟⲩⲧ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲟⲩⲛ̅ ⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ. (21) A woman will receive every man, yet is one daughter better than another.
(ⲗ︦) ϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲡⲥⲁ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ϯ ⲟⲩⲣⲟⲧ ⲙ̅ⲡⲉⲥϩⲟ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲥⲥⲟⲧⲡ̅ ⲉⲉⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ ⲛⲓⲙ. (22) The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance, and a man loveth nothing better.
(ⲗ︦ⲁ︦) ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ̅ ⲛⲁϩⲓ ⲙⲛ̅ⲧⲣⲙ̅ⲣⲁϣ ϩⲓ ⲛⲉⲥⲥⲡⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲉⲉⲓⲉ ⲡⲉⲥϩⲁⲓ̈ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲛ̅ϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛ̅ⲣ̅ⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ. (23) If there be kindness, meekness, and comfort, in her tongue, then is not her husband like other men.
(ⲗ︦ⲃ︦) ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲕⲱ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲁϥⲁⲣⲭⲓ ⲛ̅ⲕⲱ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛ̅ⲟⲩⲃⲟⲏⲑⲟⲥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲥⲧⲩⲗⲟⲥ ⲛ̅ⲙ̅ⲧⲟⲛ. (24) He that getteth a wife beginneth a possession, a help like unto himself, and a pillar of rest.
(ⲗ︦ⲅ︦) ⲡϭⲱⲙ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲙⲛ̅ ϫⲟⲗϫⲗ̅ ⲙ̅ⲙⲟϥ ϣⲁⲩⲧⲟⲣⲡϥ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲱⲧⲉ ⲛⲁⲁϣⲁϩⲟⲙ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲛ̅ϩⲏⲧϥ̅ (25) Where no hedge is, there the possession is spoiled: and he that hath no wife will wander up and down mourning.
